In collaboration with 29 national and state organizations, we created the Gender and COVID-19 Observatory in Mexico to monitor obstacles to the guarantee and exercise of women’s rights and to serve as a watchdog over the State’s human rights obligations. It is an initiative that showcases civil society’s contributions for the creation of a future in which women make decisions and freely define their life goals.
This collaborative experience has been a fundamental tool in the formation of new alliances with organizations especially around issues that we had not worked on previously. As part of this initiative, we launched a website as well as a series of investigative reports, in collaboration with the independent media group Animal Político. In addition, GIRE coordinated the production and creative design of the podcast Nos Cayó el 20, which includes six episodes that address various issues covered by the Observatory: women in detention, women with disabilities, individuales living with HIV, abortion, domestic workers and care, migration, homeless people, femicide, violence and domestic violence shelters. You can listen to it here.
