2020 was a year of memorable change, to say the least. We started it with new leadership. GIRE’s Board of Directors named Rebeca Ramos as the Executive Director, beginning in March. Her years of experience as GIRE’s Coordinator of Public Policy Advocacy facilitate continuity of our projects and strategies; at the same time, her charisma and commitment to women’s rights offer an innovative catalyst to our search for reproductive justice. We also congratulate Isabel Fulda who assumed the role of Deputy Director; Isabel coordinated and solidified GIRE’s Research department over the last several years.
The heart-rending loss of our colleague and friend Omar Feliciano made 2020 a particularly painful year. We miss him every day. However, we witness with joy and satisfaction the fruits of his contributions. His work in favor of human rights and his ability to enjoy life inspire us every day in our work toward a more just and equitable country.
In this time of health crisis, our priority has been to take care of GIRE’s team, as well as the people and communities that we accompany. Although it has been a year of many challenges, our strengths as an organization is irrefutable. We recognize the dedication and effort to adapt to changes with professionalism. We are a great team!
